This week has seen some more great experiences on offer for our athletes and and night! We’ve had a Masters performance for Great Britain, races in a unique environment and a large number of our athletes out competing for their schools in the first round of the English Schools Cup.

Watford Wednesday

Wednesday’s Watford Open saw some fantastic racing from our Beagles earning them yet more personal bests and seasons bests!

Isabel Forrest was first runner of the evening taking on the 800m and picking up a new season’s best of 2:36.43. Jude Hearn also ran the distance turning a fast start into a very competitive run and a new PB of 2:11:79.

The majority of our Beagles took on the 3000m and were all in the same race. Preston Taylor led from the front looking dominate throughout until a final lap masterclass from Dean Savery saw him use his speed to move up several places and take the win with a great new PB of 9:06.48. Preston’s efforts also earned him a new PB of 9:08.61. Further back in the race, Olivia Forrest broke away from other runners and ran in her own space throughout, picking up speed towards the end and earning herself a new PB of 9:27.51. Finally Mattie Delea and Louis King made great use of each other to push themselves through each lap with Mattie having more left towards the end to push forward and take a new PB of 9:51.28. Louis finished in 9:56.33.

World Masters Walks

Huge congratulations to Beagles race walker Stuart Bennett who has spent the last few days at the European Masters off road championships in Porto Santo representing Great Britain.

On Friday Stuart competed in the 10k event finishing 5th in his age group with his time of 1:04.29. An amazing performance in which he also led the GB team to silver medals in the event!

Today saw Stuart double his distance in the 20k event. Another 5th place age group finish in a brilliant time of 2:12.43. Stuart was also thrilled to again lead his team to a second team silver medal.

Amazing results Stuart! Congratulations from all of us! Remember if you would like to learn more about race walking then get in touch! It’s a great athletics event for beginners and suitable for all ages. We are running introductory sessions for all our multi events training groups and very happy to do the same for interested adults.

Night of the 10000 PB’s

A unique opportunity for two of our Beagles on Saturday night who got to experience the excitement of the prestigious Night of the 10000 PB’s event by taking part in the 800m invitational races. With a huge crowd up close on the track, tents to run through and lots of other entertainment taking place it really was an occasion like no other!

The U13 girls race saw Madison Kindler put in a good run to stick with the front runners and finish 4th in 2:22.18.

In the U15 boys race, Jude Hearn took full advantage of the atmosphere to fire himself up and storm to an amazing new PB of 2:07.96 finishing 9th.

The English Schools Cup sees School Track and Field teams in year 8&9 (junior) and 10&11 (inter) take on other local schools to win regional selection in an attempt to compete at the national final in a few weeks time. This week saw four different events take place in Essex and our Beagles were involved in all of them! Congratulations to the following athletes for their brilliant performances. Hackney Half

A sunny Sunday was put to good use by Scott Brooks who returned to one of his favourite events, the Hackney Half. Scott produced a strong run to finish 234th overall and 81st in his age category with his time of 1:22.58.

Great Baddow 2 mile

Amalie Twydell was also out enjoying the Sunday sun, this time in Great Baddow where the two mile road race was taking place. Amalie finished second female and first in her age group with her brilliant run of 11.51. Well done!

Parkrun and Junior parkun round up

Despite the optimal conditions on Saturday, we had relatively few Beagles turning out for their 5k runs however that didn’t translate to a lack of quality with some fine efforts. Stealing the headlines this week was Stuart Crowther (19:48) who headed down to Chalkwell Beach in search of a new Parkrun PB. He fell just short of his best (7 seconds) but did achieve a personal best age graded ranking of 82.41%!

At Raphael, there were further good performances with Simon Knightbridge* (18:29) finishing 7th and Keith Thornton* (20:56) 24th, only 30 seconds off his course PB. Representing our younger runners were Emily Brewington (23:35) and Freya Brewington (33:26). At Billericay we had 3 runners, with Elliot Worth (19:55) finishing 8thSophie Bickerstaff (21:33) 22nd and 1st female, and Camilla Nash (33:09). Finally at Chelmsford, Adam Armour (20:15) ran well again, finishing 32nd from nearly 800 runners whilst Callum Evans ran a new PB (21:11) to finish first in his age group.

It was a glorious Sunday morning for our Juniors and the club was well represented at Hutton Rec. with 10 runners from a field of 69. Leading everyone in was Jamie Murphy (08:04 PB) who ran smartly to gradually haul in the early pace setters and then finish in style taking 1st place by 2 seconds with a well timed sprint finish, securing a course best in the process. Nora Heidemans (09:17) also ran well to finish 1st female in 6th with Liam Worth (09:51) next in 7thMax Morris (10:11) was next in 13thChloe Thomson* (10:15) 14thBailee Abrahams* (10:22) 15thCamilla Nash (10:25 PB) 17thElise Gosling (10:44) 19thJoshua Barke (10:54), and Joshua Thomson* (11:16 PB) in 33rd.

There was also a huge turnout at Harrow Lodge with no less than 13 Beagles taking part, 7 of whom secured course PB’s! First in was Ollie Johnson (07:17 PB) who picked up a 2 second PB, closely followed by Matthew Jones (07:37), making his debut at the 2k event. In 3rd and 1st female was Lianne Esterhuysen (07:40 PB), also claiming an impressive event best and top age grade on the day of 80.57%. Blossom Smith (08:04 PB) was 6thAria Lily Sabado (08:06) 8thEmily Brewington (08:24) 10thEzra-Zion Gooch (09:24) 16thWillow Smith (09:39 PB) 19thDanel Esterhuysen (10:15 PB) 25thIsla Johnson (10:18 PB) 27thFreya Brewington (10:49) 31st and Liza Esterhuysen (13:16 PB) 47th.  Well done to all our runners this weekend!

Well done to all our runners this weekend. Note for parents, if your child has an * by their name, please help our editors by adding Brentwood Beagles as their club under their parkrun profile (groups). And if you ran, and aren’t featured at all, then please add the club to your profile so we can find you!!! Feel free to contact us if you need help setting this up.

Triathlon News

Stradbroke Aquathlon

Congratulations to the Beagles competing in the Stadbroke Aquathlon (swim / run) this weekend who produced some brilliant results. Oliver Kindler in the Tristar 1 event was the very narrow runner up taking home the silver medal. In Tristar 2 Sophie Bickerstaff produced a great performance to finish third with Madison Kindler  showing her strength to take gold. And in Tristar 3, Heidi Woodley continued her brilliant run of results to take another first place! Excellent efforts all.
